A hotel room pillow fight was found as a thematic match for the podcast’s raunchy themes, and so we rented a room and threw some feathers around. I decided on a black and white palette with the logo as a pop of color, to give the image some edge and to set it apart other, mostly very saturated podcast covers.

I used B-roll of the shoot to create a end-roll for Nikotellen social media clips to tie the podcast’s brand together.

Nikotellen logo is designed by Riku Aronen.

Shirly Karvinen’s podcast Dear Shirly features questions sent by her listeners, where they ask for advice – usually for Issues relationships or friendships.

We didn’t have time for elaborate photoshoots, so I came up with a way to base the design on the actual listener questions, and overlay them with a paper collage style image of Shirly.

For this I only had to shoot a simply lit portrait of Shirly against a white background, while the design work could be done ahead of time using a placeholder image. The design lends itself well to motion, and I created a end-roll with a stop-motion style.

Loukussa is about people trapping themselves in addiction, gangs, or other situations they can’t seem to get out of.

The cover art idea revolved around a musical box, in which the dancing figure is ‘trapped’. I composed and shot the cover image in a way that underlines the introspection and shame often felt by the people interviewed in the podcast.

In addition to stills, I shot and edited a video trailer for the podcast, around part of the audio trailer created by Kim Wirtanen.

Antti Holma was planning on a summer spinoff podcast Antin Kesäkassit (Antti’s Summer Sacks), and this cover photo idea by Riku Aronen seemed the only way forward.

We also wanted to create a social media ad campaign for the podcast, but faced the issue that none of the episodes were yet recorded - and the talent himself lives in Los Angeles.

I came up with the idea of having Antti appear as he FaceTimes the cover photo’s leg model, to rant about the contents of the Summer Sacks to him. So we had Antti record a video call for us, and I shot the rest of the video around that, compositing the video call to the footage at the end.

Riku Aronen designed the final cover image, while I shot and edited the video. Arno Rantanen wore the most hats, as the leg model, voice actor, and audio engineer of the project.
